Achievement of Samuel Johnson
Published in Paperback by University of Chicago Press (December, 1978)
Author: Walter Jackson Bate
Average review score:

Wonderful introduction to Johnson's major themes.
.
Walter Jackson Bate is famous for his biography of Johnson, but 20 years earlier he wrote this gem, which collects the major themes in Johnson's essays, and ties together the points Johnson made on them. It is not a quotation collection, it is Bate's analysis of the themes. There is a biographical chapter, but then about 150 pages of analysis. Those chapters are called:

1. The hunger of imagination
2. The treachery of the human heart and the strategems of defense
3. The stability of truth
4. Johnson as a critic: the form and function of literature

This is a great companion volume for readers of Johnson's essays and criticism.

The Acid Trip: A Complete Guide to Psychedelic Music
Published in Paperback by Last Gasp of San Francisco (December, 1984)
Authors: Vernon Joynson and Vernon Johnson
Average review score:

Not Perfect, But Fun
This book catalogs 1960s/early 70s psychedelic/garage/acid/folk bands. I am a real fan of mid-60s garage punk bands so this book is invaluable for details on such obscure bands as The Bees, The Calico Wall & the Fe Fi Four Plus Two. There are some inaccuracies, however. I found various mistakes in lyric reprints and band and personnel names. I guess only a real fan like me would notice them. If you are a fan of the 60s compliations such as Pepples, Highs In the Mid Sixties and Mindrocker, GET THIS BOOK.

The Adaptive Decision Maker
Published in Hardcover by Cambridge University Press (July, 1993)
Authors: John W. Payne, James R. Bettman, and Eric J. Johnson
Average review score:

An excellent insight on adaptive behavior
A book worth reading to develop an insight on the principles that guide consumer information processing and selection of relevant decision strategies in various choice environments. The framework that is presented here is both intuitively appealing and useful in guiding marketing thought and practice. The book itself is written to appeal to multiple classes of readers, i.e., general interest readers, academics, and practicing professionals. The underlying notions of consumer decision making based on adaptive behavior; and information processing based on "bounded rationality" are presented within a well-researched framework. The book is developed to provide useful insights on decision behavior emerging from various disciplinary orientations like, the behavioral sciences, cognitive psychology, consumer studies, and marketing among others. The framework proposed is well applied in everyday decision situations that pertain to businesses and consumers. The authors themselves are renowned researchers in their fields and therefore provide invaluable insight on adaptive consumer behavior and the limitations of human information processing.

Adirondack Portraits: A Piece of Time (A York State Book)
Published in Paperback by Syracuse Univ Pr (Trade) (October, 1986)
Authors: Jeanne Robert Foster, Noel Riedinger-Johnson, and Alfred Kazin
Average review score:

Great read aloud -poetry/stories of 19th C. Adirondacks
Have you ever driven down a back road and noticed one of those old shifting-to-the-side-run-down houses? Have you wondered about the folks whose footfalls used to creak the floors, whose faces used to be framed inside the now windowless panes? Jeanne Robert Foster's stories and poems, while written about the people, poverty, and places of the remote Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York, give voice to themes which are universal and timeless. Jeanne's own story began in 1879 in the Great North Woods. She became a model for Charles Dana Gibson and Harrison Fisher, an art agent for John Quinn who was the promoter of the famous Armory Show of 1913, a writer/editor for Albert Shaw, as well an advocate for housing for the poor and elderly. She was a woman who touched many lives including that of the editor of ADIRONDACK PORTRAITS: A Piece of Time, Noel Reidinger Johnson whose labor of love made this volume possible. For more information about Foster, watch for future publication of her biography by Janice Huddleston Londraville.

The Adventures of Sara Springborn and Mr. Wollo Bushtail
Published in Paperback by iUniverse.com (May, 2001)
Author: William Crow Johnson
Average review score:

Creative and a good read!
This book is very entertaining! The dialoge is great and overall it is a wonderful story. The names used for the animals are very descriptive and humorous.

Young Sara is put in a predicament when she realizes she can communicate with the animals (Wollo Bushtail and others) and must be a laison between "human kind" and the "forest dwellers" to help solve a big problem.

I would recommend this book for pre-teens and older. I really, really enjoyed reading this story.
